For nearly six decades, the enigmatic band Sparks has carved a unique niche in the music world, yet they have remained notably elusive about releasing a full-length live album. That silence has now been shattered as Live on the Moon is set to arrive on September 4 via Transgressive, offering fans a retrospective journey through their storied career.

This new collection pulls from across Sparks’ extensive discography, featuring iconic tracks like “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us” and “No. 1 Song in Heaven,” alongside a special feature involving the incomparable Cate Blanchett serving as Master of Ceremonies.

The genesis of this extraordinary release stems from an unforgettable adventure. Following their 2025 World Tour, Sparks were invited to embark on a special one-off concert trip to the Moon, specifically landing at the Taruntius Crater near Mare Fecunditatis. As the first band to perform on the lunar surface, the experience quickly became legendary.

Ron and Russell Mael, the band members, shared their excitement about the journey. They noted the overwhelming fan interest, with tickets vanishing within an hour of being released Coordinated Lunar Time (CLT). The expedition wasn’t just a musical event; it was a monumental feat that brought art to the farthest reaches of the solar system.

Adding another layer of spectacle to this cosmic performance was the presence of Cate Blanchett.
