Soup Activists announce new album Where The Rubbish Goes Hear Johnny
From the gritty streets of St. Louis punk to the warm, fuzzy sounds of lo-fi power-pop, musician Martin Meyer has always been a curator of playful noise. His musical journey has seen him transition from leading the punk band Lumpy And The Dumpers and running the label Lumpy Records to embarking on a new, delightfully whimsical adventure as Soup Activists.
Since 2020, Meyer has channeled that unique energy into creating the Soup Activists project. This new incarnation features a distinctly lo-fi sound, infused with a catchy, power-pop sensibility that manages to be both nostalgic and wonderfully modern. While the musical landscape is shifting, Meyer remains the sole voice guiding the Soup Activists movement.
The band has already established itself by releasing a selection of material, including several EPs and a full-length album from 2024, Mummy What Are Flowers For?, which offers a glimpse into their signature sound.
Anticipation is building for the next release. Next month, Meyer is set to drop a new offering titled Where The Rubbish Goes, promising more of the signature cheerful, slightly chaotic music that defines the Soup Activists sound.
The new project has already garnered attention, with announcements and previews circulating online. For instance, news about the new album Where The Rubbish Goes, including a track titled “Johnny,” first appeared on Stereogum, sparking interest among music fans eager to discover the latest from the artist.
