Smush drops new album hear “milkweed butterfly”

The world of indie music is constantly evolving, and sometimes the most unexpected creative leaps happen through homage. Brooklyn-via-Vancouver group Smush recently demonstrated this approach, taking a deep dive into modern classics and remixing them with a distinct, kinetic energy.

In February, the band released their EP Standards, a collection that proved their ability to breathe a unique atmosphere into familiar sounds. They paid tribute to beloved artists like Norah Jones and Owl City, but their vision extended further, incorporating takes on tracks such as Big Rig, Hotline TNT, and Field Medic.

The result was a masterful blend of glitchy, shoegazey bliss, injecting a fresh, vibrant texture into these modern classics. Smush managed to transform familiar melodies into something entirely new, showcasing their signature sonic sensibility.

Now, the band is channeling that same dynamic creativity into their original work. They have announced the release of a spiky new single, “milkweed butterfly“, which serves as a preview of their upcoming sophomore album.

This new material promises to continue the journey, leading up to the release of their full-length album, i’ll always wish,,, expected early next year. Fans can follow the exciting developments as Smush continues to expand their unique sound.
