Sexecutioner Chuck Varga has died

The music world and the community of heavy metal mourned the passing of Chuck Varga, the founding member of the legendary band GWAR, better known by his stage name, the Sexecutioner. Varga passed away peacefully at the age of 68, leaving behind a legacy defined by theatrical mayhem, artistic vision, and enduring legend.

The news of his passing was shared by bassist Casey Orr, who described Varga as a truly unique figure—a blend of artist, performer, scholar, and gentleman. Orr expressed profound grief while celebrating Varga’s immense impact, noting that the world is diminished by his absence and that he is surely being welcomed into Valhalla by those who came before.

Beyond his music, Varga’s life was marked by a deep commitment to his loved ones and a willingness to give back. While navigating a personal battle with cancer, the GWAR family rallied around him, organizing both a blood donation campaign and a fundraiser to help pay for his medical bills. This act of generosity underscores the warmth and community that surrounded him.

Varga’s creative roots stretched far beyond the stage. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he forged important artistic connections, including meeting Hunter Jackson, with whom he collaborated to create the creative space known as the Slave Pit—a foundational inspiration for the band GWAR.

The years Varga spent in heavy metal were undeniably prolific. As a key member of GWAR during their breakthrough period, he helped shape the band’s ascent through a remarkable run of albums, including Hell-O (1988), Scumdogs of the Universe (1990), America Must Be Destroyed (1992), This Toilet Earth (1994), and Ragnarök (1995).

After his tenure with GWAR concluded in 1997, Varga embarked on a new chapter. He moved to New York City, pursuing opportunities in film, television, and Broadway. Later, in 2017, he established Hyperreal Productions, a company focused on costume and set design, demonstrating his continued commitment to visual artistry.
