ROSTR helps artists build tour routes with a new directory
Mapping the Money: How ROSTR Promoters is Revolutionizing the Live Music Industry
The journey of an independent artist—from crafting a killer setlist to finding the perfect venue and securing the financing—is often littered with frustrating detours. One of the most elusive links in this chain is the promoter: the individual or company who shoulders the financial risk, markets the event, and connects the music to the audience.
Now, a new intelligence platform is stepping in to solve this fragmentation. Music industry intelligence platform ROSTR has announced ROSTR Promoters, a powerful, searchable directory designed to connect artists and agents directly with the people who buy, market, and execute live shows.
Unveiled at the International Entertainment Buyers Association’s 56th annual conference in Nashville on October 4, the directory is slated for launch in 2027. ROSTR describes it as the world’s first searchable promoter database, setting out to eliminate the guesswork that currently plagues touring teams.
The challenge for touring professionals is clear: knowing which venue an artist wants to play does not automatically reveal who can put the show together. A promoter is far more than just a booking agent; they navigate complex financial risks, build local audience relationships, and handle the massive logistics of an event.
Finding the Right Partnership
ROSTR Promoters is built to give touring teams a strategic advantage, allowing them to look beyond existing contacts and tap into new pools of talent. An agent might know the major buyers in New York or Los Angeles, but they might lack the connections in a smaller, emerging market that could unlock a crucial tour route.
The new platform centralizes this crucial information, offering profiles that detail which artists promoters have worked with, the genres they specialize in, and the specific cities and markets where they operate. This context is invaluable, helping teams identify buyers whose experience aligns perfectly with an artist’s audience, thereby uncovering opportunities that might otherwise remain hidden.
For independent artists and emerging acts, this shift offers practical, tangible value. A promoter’s booking history serves as a powerful starting point for outreach, helping teams uncover promoters equipped to champion a show in a promising new market. It transforms a promising market from a theoretical possibility into an actionable opportunity.
The foundation of this new resource stems from a recognition that the touring ecosystem needs better mapping. Vivian Wang Donohue, ROSTR’s Chief Growth Officer, emphasized the scope of this initiative:
“Promoters carry the financial risk on every show that goes on sale, and they are arguably the least documented job in the business. We had to do venues first, because you cannot map a promoter without knowing the rooms. This is the other half of that.”
ROSTR positions the directory as a necessary response to rising touring costs, intense competition for venue availability, and the fragmented nature of the ticket marketplace. By providing better access to potential partners, ROSTR aims to level the playing field, ensuring that artists and agents can connect with the right financial and logistical partners, making the path to the next great tour smoother and more profitable for everyone involved.
