Remi Wolf feels clean and clear ahead of new LP
Remi Wolf is taking a deep breath, finding clarity, and releasing it all on Mud, her third studio album, set for release on October 9 via Island Records. More than just a collection of songs, the new 11-track project is positioned as a profound, transformative experience, marking a significant new chapter in the singer-songwriter’s life.
The journey to creating Mud was anything but smooth. Wolf shared that the process itself was intense, describing the creation phase as a necessary clearing of the air. “I literally felt like I was covered in shit,” she admitted, referencing the raw, messy nature of the creative work. But by the time the album was finished, the feeling shifted entirely. “And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear.”
This evolution came after years spent navigating the relentless demands of touring, writing, and recording. Wolf decided it was time to fundamentally rethink not only what she wanted to express musically but how she wanted to approach the sound. Instead of traditional studio setups, she sought a communal approach, bringing a group of collaborators—including longtime friend Jared Solomon and others—into the creative fold.
These sessions moved beyond typical songwriting. They became a true creative family affair, with family dinners and passing microphones around the kitchen becoming the blueprint for the project. This communal approach became the foundation for Mud, allowing the music to develop organically, prioritizing storytelling and performance over polished perfection.
The band reconvened at iconic locations like Electric Lady Studios in New York and Joshua Tree, opting to record live and largely in the same room. This spontaneity resulted in a sound that is noticeably warmer, more spacious, and deeply earthy than her previous work. Mud represents an evolution of the adventurous pop world Wolf has already defined with her earlier EPs, her debut Juno, and the follow-up Big Ideas.
Wolf’s established reputation is built on a foundation of powerful live performance and major exposure, having played festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo, and sharing stages with artists like Paramore, Lorde, and Olivia Rodrigo. This journey of personal transformation is now being channeled into an album that feels both deeply personal and broadly resonant, cementing Remi Wolf’s status as an artist continually finding her voice.
