Redsky plots Canadian tour dates and names Cecilia Jeffery

Musician Evan Redsky has recently shared a deeply personal and powerful new single, “Cecillia Jeffrey“, which carries significant weight as it marks an observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The track connects directly to the history and legacy of the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. Redsky shared that this song is a reflection of his own family history, noting that three generations of his paternal family attended the residential school. This personal connection lends an immediate, profound depth to the music.

Redsky explained that the inspiration for the song stemmed from a deeply personal journey. He noted that the experience of sharing the song has come at a time of personal healing, following a year spent in sobriety. He described the process as one of embracing personal scars and learning to love himself, hoping that the music serves as a channel for the spirit and offers a little bit of medicine to anyone who needs it.

The narrative of the song connects to a broader cultural conversation, drawing parallels to other powerful stories of resilience, referencing the work of authors like Gord Downie and the experiences of individuals such as Chanie Wenjack.

This release follows Redsky’s sophomore album, The Language of Fishermen, showcasing his ongoing exploration of identity and experience through his artistry.

As Redsky moves forward, he is embarking on a significant tour that will take him across the continent. The upcoming run features dates across Ontario and Quebec, with exciting detours into Tennessee and Alberta later in the season, alongside performances with his collaborator Spencer Burton.
