QOTSA Detail ‘Perfecth’ shares “Insignificant Other”
Forget everything you thought you knew about perfection, because Queens of the Stone Age have dropped a new record that dares you to embrace the beautiful mess. Their latest album, Perfecth, is hitting Matador Records on October 30th, and it’s an invitation to celebrate the beautifully imperfect.
The album’s title itself is a masterclass in irony. As frontman Josh Homme explains, the misspelling is intentional, reflecting the reality that nothing in the world is perfectly made. “Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be perfecth,” Homme noted. It’s a playful nod to the “broken is beautiful” philosophy of kintsugi—the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold—suggesting that flaws and history only make things more valuable.
This concept is woven through the record. The single Insignificant Other was famously captured on just the second take, underscoring the raw, authentic spirit of the tracks. The video released for this single, directed by Chapman Baehler, embodies this theme, featuring a character named Big Chongus who searches for his perfect home.
The visual narrative surrounding the music pushes the theme further. The video explores the idea of finding belonging, asking the viewer to consider what makes a home, and what we leave out of the equation. It’s a visually engaging journey that perfectly complements the album’s introspective, yet explosive, sound.
Beyond the single, the album Perfecth features other compelling tracks like Easy Street, alongside titles such as It’s Only Love, Mono, and Run Away from the Mob, offering a diverse landscape of sonic exploration.
The album was self-produced by bandmates Josh Homme and Michael Schuman, ensuring that the vision remained fiercely intact. Fans can dive into the full tracklist, which includes songs like Where the Goth Girls At? and Phantom Limb, to fully experience the depth of the group’s creativity.
Speaking of touring, QOTSA is ready to hit the road. They have scheduled Canadian dates in September opening for the Foo Fighters, kicking off a substantial tour that spans international stages.
