Princess explores Unique Alchemy on Third LP
The New York trio Princess Goes is stretching its boundaries with their third full-length album, Princess Goes, set for release on October 30th. This latest offering brings a fresh evolution to the sound of Michael C. Hall, Matt Katz-Bohen, and Peter Yanowitz, marking another chapter in their peculiar and stylish musical partnership.
The band’s journey began on Broadway when the three friends first met performing in Hedwig & the Angry Inch. What started as a spontaneous collaboration after the show closed has blossomed into a formidable act with two previous albums, two EPs, and over 100 live performances worldwide, all while maintaining a decidedly under-the-radar quality.
This new record follows their 2023 album Come of Age and the 2021 release Thanks for Coming, continuing a musical trajectory defined by unique chemistry. Hall notes that the enduring appeal lies in recognizing the “unique alchemy” among the members, compelling them to keep showing up and honor that bond.
For this project, the band embraced a different approach, consciously pushing outward on their creative vision without a rigid mission statement. This time, they sought something more wide open and expansive in their songwriting, allowing the music to lead the way.
A significant shift in sound was also facilitated by producer Brandon Bost. His involvement upended the group’s previous method of self-producing in their own studio, fundamentally altering the overall sonics of the new record.
This evolution is perhaps most evident in the track French Kiss. Hall describes it as a piece that developed gradually, both musically and lyrically, through multiple iterations. This contrasts with earlier material, such as the single from their previous work, which he described as being “pretty fully formed from the start.”
While the album is approaching release, there are no definitive plans regarding live performances for Princess Goes yet. Fans can look forward to experiencing this latest chapter in their story when Princess Goes arrives.
