Pokémon Night Out rave with Marshmello and Alison Wonderland at The O2
The digital and musical worlds are about to collide in a celebration that taps into decades of nostalgia, bringing a massive dance party to London. Famed DJs Marshmello and Alison Wonderland are set to headline the Pokémon Night Out concert at The O2 on November 10.
This isn’t just any party; it’s a monumental event marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic Pokémon franchise. The celebration forms a key part of the larger Pokémon ‘What’s Your Favourite?’ campaign, a project designed to engage fans across the globe with the history and mythology of the beloved creatures.
The collaboration between the artists and The Pokémon Company International is anything but ordinary. Both Marshmello and Wonderland have worked closely with the company to craft bespoke mixes and visuals for the show, ensuring the experience is deeply integrated with the Pokémon universe. This event serves as the second and final large-scale Pokémon Night Out following a similar celebration in Los Angeles.
For Marshmello, who is known for arena-filling anthems like ‘Happier‘ and ‘Silence‘, participating in the celebration felt like a true honour. He expressed excitement about playing a very special, curated set and even teased potential big-screen cameos from Pokémon icons, including his personal favourite, Mewtwo.
“I grew up with Pokémon, so to do this, especially on the 30th anniversary, is just such an honour,” Marshmello shared. He noted that while DJing is about freestyling, the setup for this show was highly calculated, promising a truly unique experience.
Alison Wonderland, an award-winning DJ and producer, echoed the sentiment, finding the collaboration deeply surreal. She stated that she had always wanted Pokémon visuals and was thrilled to be working with the official content. “It’s just kind of surreal for me,” she said. “It’s keeping that inner child alive.”
Wonderland anticipates the party will feel like a true rave, highlighting the unexpected crossover between electronic music enthusiasts and Pokémon fans. She pointed out the deep connection between the two cultures, noting that many people bring Pokémon trinkets to raves, underscoring the shared fascination.
The journey of Pokémon itself is a testament to its enduring global appeal. Beginning as a pair of role-playing games released on the Game Boy in 1996, the franchise has expanded exponentially, branching out into manga, trading card games, anime, and films. Thirty years later, Pokémon stands as the highest-grossing media franchise in history, cementing its status as a global household name.
This anniversary celebration unites gaming history, musical innovation, and pop culture, offering a vibrant and unforgettable night for fans. Tickets for the event are available now starting from £30.
