Phil Collins recently shared his harrowing experience of nearly dying in 2024 after a severe battle with alcohol addiction led him into intensive care. This deeply personal ordeal, which saw him fight for his life, is now being recounted as he navigates recovery and reflects on the profound moments that redefined his perspective.

The journey toward this crisis began earlier in 2023 when Collins was first admitted to a hospital in Switzerland regarding his alcohol use. While he was discharged before Christmas, his health took a dramatic turn weeks later, leading to a prolonged and intense period of treatment that spanned seven months.

When Collins faced a critical health emergency in April 2024, he was unconscious. It was during this vulnerable time that family became the ultimate lifeline. His manager reached out to his five children, who traveled immediately to be by his side, offering an unwavering presence amidst the uncertainty.

“There were some decisions to be made about, ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ Kind of thing,” Collins recounted. He described a moment where his body was literally shutting down, noting that his kidneys were failing and his organs were seizing up, as people began arriving to say goodbye. He admitted he did not remember the influx of visitors.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Collins expressed immense gratitude for survival. “Needless to say, I haven’t had a drink since,” he stated, underscoring the monumental shift in his life following the ordeal. The experience proved to be a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of fighting for it.

The emotional impact extended to his family. Collins later shared that he reunited with his children for four “fantastic” days at a hotel in London, an experience that brought tears to his daughter Lily Collins, who expressed how much she cherished these moments.

Beyond the immediate crisis, Collins has been open about the ongoing nature of managing his health. He revealed that he requires a 24-hour live-in nurse to help manage his medication, and he has undergone five operations on his knee as part of his recovery process.

While focusing on recovery, there are signs of renewed vitality. Collins reports feeling “healthier” than he had for some time. Although he wisely ruled out performing at the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction later this year, he remains open to contemplating future musical ventures, emphasizing that physical readiness is paramount.

In a final move, Collins is preparing to celebrate a significant milestone by releasing an expanded reissue of his debut solo album, ‘Face Value (Full Value)’. This new box set, featuring half-speed versions, demos, outtakes, and unreleased live recordings, is set to be released on September 18th, offering fans an expanded look at the enduring legacy of the legendary musician.
