Pearl Jam Sabbath CSNY join for Power
When rock and roll meets radical activism, the Power to the People festival isn’t just a concert—it’s a movement. Tom Morello’s long-running event is gearing up for an explosive gathering on October 3rd at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, bringing together a legendary roster of veteran guitarists and political firebrands.
This year’s event is packed with veteran firepower, uniting names like Nathaniel Rateliff, Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, and The Last Internationale. These additions promise a stage that will shake the foundations of rock history.
The musical spectacle will be joined by an already eye-popping bill featuring acts such as Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, Public Enemy, Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, and Cypress Hill. The sheer breadth of talent ensures a truly unforgettable experience.
But the festival’s mission goes far beyond the music. Morello’s vision for the event is built around a powerful theme: “freedom, justice, equality, and rock and roll.” This philosophy is manifested in the immersive Freedom Village, an exciting space dedicated to civic engagement, grassroots organizing, education, mutual aid, and social impact.
The festival actively connects attendees to real-world change, ensuring that the celebration of music is tied to the pursuit of social justice. A significant portion of all ticket proceeds, along with 100% of net VIP proceeds, will be directed to VoteRiders and HeadCount, helping attendees register to vote and learn more about participating in upcoming elections.
The lineup of participating organizations underscores this commitment to community. Groups like the ACLU, Farm Aid, Rock the Vote, Oxfam, and the Woody Guthrie Center will be involved, creating a unique intersection where artistic expression fuels social action.
This gathering follows the release of Morello’s solo rock album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, which features collaborations with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Beartooth, and Morello’s teenage son Roman, who co-wrote several tracks. It is a testament to how personal creativity can be channeled into a powerful, public cause.
