Nicole Wyskoarko & Common Among Black Music Gala Honorees

The energy was electric at the Black Music Action Coalition’s sixth annual BMAC Gala, an evening that proved that Black music is not just a sound, but a powerful force of culture, history, and unstoppable purpose. Hosted by Live Nation and presented by radio personality and entrepreneur Kenny Burns, the event gathered industry heavyweights and celebrated the perseverance that defines the Black artistic experience.

At the heart of the celebration was a powerful message about transforming struggle into triumph. Willie “Prophet” Stiggers, co-founder and president/CEO of BMAC, opened the proceedings by emphasizing that Black music has always served as the medium for telling our story, holding onto humanity, and turning pain into purpose. He framed the night as a gathering at a crucial moment where too much is at stake.

The evening was packed with recognition, honoring artists and executives whose careers embody resilience and impact. The awards highlighted major figures across the music landscape, including Patti LaBelle, Common, and Public Enemy, alongside industry leaders like Nicole Wyskoarko and Tina Davis. These honorees received recognition for their monumental contributions to the field.

Among the accolades were the BMAC Icon Award for Patti LaBelle, the Harry Belafonte Change Agent Award for Common, and the BMAC Social Impact Award for Public Enemy, underscoring the deep cultural footprint these figures have left on the world.

The celebration recognized a breadth of talent, including the BMAC Founders Award for THE·TEAM, and the BMAC 365 Award for a dynamic group of emerging artists, including Arielle Vavasseur, Dylan Siegler, Kristin Jones, Markie Ruzzo, Sharlotte Ritchie, and Susan Mazo.

The impact of the gala extends far beyond the spotlight. Proceeds from the event will fuel vital BMAC initiatives, supporting programs like the BMAC x America250 initiative, Music Maker grants, Music Accelerator programs, and the BMAC Live and Restore & Rebuild LA Program, ensuring that the momentum continues to benefit the community.

The spirit of collective action was palpable throughout the night. When Common accepted the Harry Belafonte Change Agent Award, he reflected on the guidance he received, noting how standing up for millions in harm’s way is a testament to the power of rebellion and standing firm.

The celebration was further enriched by musical tributes. Patti LaBelle was treated to a stunning performance featuring Chanté Moore and Le’Andria Johnson, alongside appearances by Big Daddy Kane and MAJOR. The atmosphere was filled with an appreciation for the legacy and the future of Black music.

Before the main gala, the organization had already fostered hope by hosting the BMAC x America250 Voice of Tomorrow celebration the night before, featuring performances from rising talents like DJ Stussy, The Reasn, RAHBI, and Anzie Blue recording artist Pynk Beard, setting a vibrant tone for the coming year.
