NFG Guitarist Chad Gilbert Dies at 45

The music world is mourning the loss of a legend, Chad Gilbert, the founding guitarist and creative force behind the pop-punk powerhouse New Found Glory. Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 20th at the age of 45.

His passing was announced on social media by the band and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, six months after he revealed he had been battling cancer. The announcement was met with an outpouring of love and respect from friends across the music community.

Gilbert’s life was defined by an incredible blend of raw musical talent and profound personal courage. He had long been open with his fans about his health struggles, sharing updates on his journey through treatment and recovery.

His fight against illness was marked by resilience. After a major health scare, he underwent brain cancer surgery to remove three tumors. This surgery followed earlier diagnoses, including a rare tumor called a pheochromocytoma, which required intensive treatment. He bravely confronted these challenges, fighting his sickness with the soul of a joyous, courageous warrior, never letting complaints overshadow his incredible strength.

While navigating these difficult years, Gilbert continued to live a life rich with passion. He remains an icon not just for his music, but for the warmth and positive energy he brought to everyone he encountered.

His legacy extends far beyond his chart-topping albums. As a founding member of New Found Glory, Gilbert’s guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive helped shape the band for nearly three decades. The group reflected on his impact, noting that his influence will always be felt on every stage they perform.

The grief felt by those who knew him is immense, but it is matched by the profound appreciation for the life he lived and the memories shared. Peers in the rock community paid heartfelt tributes, recognizing the unique friendship Gilbert shared with others.

Musicians like Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 called him “the best friend to every person he met” and praised his joyous spirit, while The Offspring simply stated, “Today, the world lost a legend. RIP Chad.” Fellow artists, including William Ryan Key of Yellowcard and Anthony Raneri of Bayside, shared their gratitude for the friendship and energy he brought into their lives.
