New Neil Young Covers Drop As Tribute Series Expands

The celebration of Neil Young’s legendary songbook is officially expanding, turning a musical tribute into a powerful force for philanthropy. Following the success of Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young, Vol. 1, Cinema Music Group and Killphonic Records have announced two more installments in this benefit series: Vol. 2 – Out of the Blue and Vol. 3 – Into the Black, both set to arrive on November 6th.

These new collections are far more than just compilations; they are vehicles for meaningful support. Proceeds from this entire series benefit the Bridge School, a nonprofit founded by Neil and his late wife Pegi Young dedicated to supporting individuals with severe speech and physical impairments.

The artistic vision remains wonderfully eclectic, assembling a roster of artists who interpret Young’s catalog with unique and compelling flair. The contributors bring an incredible range of talent, including My Morning Jacket, Lucinda Williams, Heart’s Ann Wilson, Peter Frampton, Los Lobos, Modest Mouse featuring Califone, Ben Gibbard, Cold War Kids, Kurt Vile and the Violators, MJ Lenderman, and LP.

The anticipation is already building, with preview tracks offering tantalizing glimpses into the depth of the project. King Princess offers a stripped-down, intimate take on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classic “Helpless.” She shared that recording the piece felt like destiny, capturing a moment in her personal history and sharing it in an incredibly personal setting.

Draco Rosa joins the tribute by reimagining “After the Gold Rush,” reflecting on how pivotal the melody is in his own journey of finding hope and new beginnings.

The significance of this music lies in the foundation it supports. The Bridge School is marking a major milestone this year, celebrating its 40th anniversary. Executive Director Gabriela Berlanga noted that every purchase directly contributes to providing essential communication, education, and support for individuals facing communication and physical disabilities.
