MUNA Tour Bus Fire After Stanford Show: Passengers Safe

A routine tour was abruptly interrupted by a blaze, but thankfully, the musicians involved walked away unscathed. A tour bus carrying members of the popular indie-pop trio MUNA caught fire on Interstate 5 in Burbank, California, Monday morning, October 19th.

The incident occurred just hours after the group had delivered a powerful performance at Stanford University, adding a layer of unexpected drama to what was already an exciting leg of their journey.

While personal belongings were unfortunately lost in the smoke and heat, the most important news is that everyone aboard the bus was safe, a fact the group shared immediately after the incident.

The California Highway Patrol responded quickly to the scene near Buena Vista Street, where the fire took hold. Emergency crews swiftly worked to contain the blaze, leading to the temporary closure of several lanes of the freeway and causing unavoidable delays for commuters.

Aerial footage captured the extent of the damage, showing significant fire damage to the vehicle, particularly toward the rear of the bus. Reports indicated that the driver was initially unaware of the fire before pulling over.

Despite the disruption caused by the emergency response, there was no immediate indication that the band’s schedule would be derailed. MUNA’s upcoming performances were still firmly on track, with scheduled dates remaining for Wednesday at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, and Thursday in Los Angeles.

This event comes as the trio continues to build momentum behind their fourth studio album, Dancing on the Wall, a collection that arrived in May. The group has spent much of 2026 on the road, steadily growing from indie-pop favorites into a significant touring draw.

MUNA first emerged from Los Angeles, debuting with their self-titled album About U in 2017. Their success has been bolstered by hits like “Silk Chiffon,” which featured Phoebe Bridgers and helped expand their audience long before they hit the road.

While the cause of the bus fire is still under investigation, the focus remains on the safety of the travelers and the continued momentum of the band on their ongoing tour.
