Michelle Branch & Gregg Alexander reimagine The Game of Love

When a musical legend decides to revisit her roots, it’s more than just nostalgia—it’s a full-circle moment. Michelle Branch has stepped back into the spotlight with a long-awaited collaboration, revisiting one of her career-defining hits with the songwriter who helped craft it: Gregg Alexander.

The duo is reimagining “The Game of Love,” the 2002 smash hit originally penned and produced by Alexander and famously recorded by Branch for Santana’s Supernatural album. This new recording marks their first collaboration since the song’s original release more than two decades ago, injecting a fresh energy into a timeless piece.

This recent work serves as the tantalizing preview for Branch’s new project, Everywhere and Back Again, an ambitious effort celebrating her 25-year career. The project involves reimagining songs from across her catalog, featuring a lineup of friends and special guests who are recasting tracks she first wrote as a teenager through exciting new collaborations.

Among the songs set for these fresh interpretations are classics like “Everywhere,” “All You Wanted,” “Goodbye to You,” and “Breathe.” Branch describes the experience as a “pinch me moment,” noting how hearing these adolescent songs about love lost and found performed by admired artists from different genres adds entirely new meaning and weight.

“Being able to celebrate a 25-year career while firmly believing my best work is still ahead of me is the dream of any artist,” Branch shared. For her, revisiting songs she wrote in her youth with peers has unlocked a renewed perspective on her legacy.

The connection between Branch and Alexander is deep, tracing back to the initial creation of the song. Alexander recounted how the collaboration began after attempts to work with other artists fell short, leading him to suggest the then-19-year-old Branch after she had been performing New Radicals’ “You Get What You Give” on tour.

The bond between the two artists is palpable. Alexander recalled the moment they finally brought their sounds together: “When 19-year-old Michelle waltzed in delivering a jaw-dropping one-take vocal, we won a Grammy a year later.” This history underscores why revisiting tracks like “The Game of Love” feels so genuinely authentic.

Branch officially unveiled the broader project on July 14th during a live event at the Sun Rose in West Hollywood. The evening featured live performances of new material, including “All You Wanted,” “Breathe,” and “Everywhere,” alongside a snippet of the newly reimagined hit.

Building on that momentum, Branch has announced the Everywhere and Back Again Tour, which kicks off on September 27th in Seattle. Fans are ready for this journey, celebrating two decades of incredible music and a future full of creative exploration.
