Men Overboard CHVRCHES LP due in January

CHVRCHES is dialing up the intensity, trading the shimmering synths of their past for a sharper, guitar-driven sound on their latest offering, All the King’s Men. Coming in January 2027, this 11-track album marks a significant creative pivot for the Scottish trio of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty, offering a pointed and often darker examination of British identity and its often overlooked social realities.

The shift is as deliberate as it is thrilling. Following a period of rest after touring behind their previous work, the band decided that a fresh perspective demanded a change in approach. Instead of continuing their remote-working process, they gathered for intensive, in-person sessions in Glasgow, embracing a focused environment that fueled deep artistic experimentation.

This focused period saw the band delve into a rich tapestry of influences. Martin Doherty immersed himself in the mood of gritty British cinema, drawing inspiration from filmmakers like Shane Meadows and Ken Loach, while exploring the sonic landscapes of bands such as Massive Attack, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and PJ Harvey. Lauren Mayberry sharpened her songwriting, aiming for a more vivid storytelling approach and a broader vocal palette, while Iain Cook turned away from electronics to rediscover the beauty of acoustic instruments, channeling the spirit of Nick Drake and Bert Jansch.

The result is an album that manages to hold both playfulness and melancholy in equal measure. All the King’s Men is a freewheeling collection of emotionally charged indie rock, balancing the playful ’90s pop-rock energy of tracks like “Adore You” with the bleak, expansive loneliness found in songs such as “Comedown Tomorrow.” The album explores the complex relationship between British and Scottish identity, viewed through the lens of a band that has navigated different parts of the world, finding new meaning in the U.K.’s history, including its more challenging corners.

The lead single, “Roses,” preceded the full release, setting a tone of confrontation and immediate attention. The album has already generated buzz, launching with sold-out intimate benefit shows in Glasgow and London. Now, CHVRCHES is ready for a wider audience, kicking off a North American run on February 13 before hitting the U.K. and Ireland.

The tracklist for All the King’s Men includes hits like “Roses,” “Evil,” “Adore You,” and the haunting “Comedown Tomorrow,” alongside tracks such as “Friend of a Friend” and “Faith In Flying.” Fans can expect a journey that is both musically exciting and deeply reflective, proving that sometimes the sharpest truths are found in the darkest corners of history.

The band is set to continue this journey with an extensive tour schedule, hitting cities across North America and the UK, ready to bring the raw, emotionally charged sound of All the King’s Men to arenas worldwide.
