Mel C donates her best kit for a good cause

The world of fashion is not just about trends; it’s about legacy, memories, and giving things a second life. British pop icon Melanie C is embracing this philosophy by participating in a massive national clothing drive, proving that style and charity can perfectly intersect.

As a co-founder of the iconic Spice Girls, Melanie C is making some memorable farewells to cherished pieces. She is donating items that carry decades of pop culture history to the Australian Red Cross, including her signature “Morning Show Tracksuit,” a classic green and yellow ensemble, the glamorous “Roundhouse” grey sequin suit, and a little black Gucci dress. She views this act as a way to find new owners for clothes filled with personal memories.

“I’ve been lucky enough to wear some incredible pieces over the years – there are lots of memories attached to them, and I love the idea of giving them a new life with somebody else,” she explains. “If I can do it, hopefully Sporty Spice can inspire others to have a look through their wardrobes too.”

Melanie is deeply connected to Australia, having served as a coach on The Voice Australia for the past two seasons. This connection extends to her current work supporting the Red Cross, an organization that has provided aid and support for over 110 years. By contributing to the Uber x Australian Red Cross Clothing Drive, she is helping raise vital funds while promoting the important message of recycling and reducing waste.

This drive has demonstrated incredible community spirit. Last year, the initiative successfully collected nearly 125,000kg of quality pre-loved clothing. These shop-quality donations were enough to fully stock five Red Cross stores for an entire year, showcasing the profound impact of community involvement.

The effort culminates in a big giveaway event on Saturday, October 17, where clothing collected from doorsteps across major Australian cities, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, will be distributed. The drive encourages everyone to participate in this national effort to refresh wardrobes and support humanitarian causes simultaneously.
