MCR Tease New Album During Tour Close
As the Black Parade tour winds down, the focus shifts from stadium anthems to the hopeful promise of the future. Frontman Gerard Way, addressing the audience at the Alamodome in San Antonio, offered a glimpse into the band’s ambitions, hinting at a monumental creative endeavor yet to come.
During the closing night of the tour on Saturday, September 12th, Way framed the prospect of a new recording not as a firm commitment, but as a deeply held desire. He shared that the band has always wanted to create another album, expressing a sentiment that their fans, who kept them alive, deserve a new record. While he offered no titles, timelines, or release dates, his words served as the band’s most direct public acknowledgment of a potential fifth studio album since 2019.
This potential new release would mark My Chemical Romance’s first full-length album since 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Since reforming, the group has largely focused on touring, celebrating the massive legacy of The Black Parade, which has evolved into the global stadium run known as The Black Parade 2026.
The anniversary celebration has been epic, featuring performances of the 2006 magnum opus across North America, the U.K., and Europe. This celebratory period also included an expanded 20th-anniversary reissue of The Black Parade, set for release on October 23rd via Reprise Records. This reissue goes beyond the original album, pairing it with six bonus tracks, including three live recordings from a 2007 club gig and the previously unreleased B-side “Someone Out There Loves You,” alongside three new pieces of art from original cover artist James Jean.
The Black Parade, released in 2006, remains a cultural and commercial peak for the group. The album achieved four-times platinum certification in the U.S. and topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. Its lead single, “Welcome to the Black Parade,” was a No. 9 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned five-times platinum certification, cementing its place as one of the defining rock anthems of its era.
