Gerard Way, the dynamic frontman of My Chemical Romance, has dropped some tantalizing details about the band’s future, confirming that the group is shifting its focus toward creation.

Speaking to fans at the Hollywood Bowl headline show on October 30, Way clarified that the band intends to dedicate the coming year entirely to writing and recording new material. This creative sprint means stepping away from the road, as they plan to focus solely on making a new record.

When asked about live performances, Way made it clear that there would be no shows during this period. “Next year, we wanna go make a record,” he stated. “We’re probably not going to do any shows. There’s no secret code to that. Maybe if we get really rusty when we’re making something we’ll be like, ‘Bro, let’s go.’ We will see you guys in 2028, you know what I’m saying?”

This marks the first new material for the group since the release of the single The Foundations Of Decay in 2022. The band’s last studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, was released back in 2010, setting the stage for a highly anticipated reunion.

Following the initial breakup, the members eventually regrouped in December 2019 for a reunion show at Los Angeles’ Shrine Expo Hall. Amidst the uncertainties of the pandemic, the band announced a full-scale reunion tour in 2022, reigniting excitement among their devoted fanbase.

However, the journey has not been without some external turbulence. Recently, the legal situation surrounding the band drew attention, as the owners of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders initiated legal action against My Chemical Romance. This action stemmed from an incident where the band had brought a group of lookalike dancers brandishing cardboard guns onto the stage at a recent Los Angeles performance.

In response to the legal challenge, Rolling Stone reported that the band agreed to cease using the costumes while the legal case remains pending.

Despite this pause in touring, the group remains active and is scheduled to close out the year with a short series of performances across Asia. Fans can catch them in November in:

November 7: Paradise City Korea, Incheon, South Korea

November 10: Singapore Indoor Stadium, Kallang, Singapore
