Mario Kart World theme recorded live with full band
The history of Mario music just got a major remix, and the celebration is playing out on Nintendo Music. To mark the arrival of Mario Kart World, Nintendo has finally made its sprawling soundtrack available to the public, celebrating four decades of Mario musical history.
The game introduced a massive open-world mode, or ‘Free Roam,’ and to match the scale of the adventure, the soundtrack paid a deep homage to the franchise’s rich legacy. After nearly a year of anticipation, the main soundtrack has now been fully integrated into Nintendo’s dedicated streaming service, making the music accessible to fans everywhere.
This wasn’t just a simple upload; Nintendo has continuously spiced up the experience. Regular updates have introduced remixed and reworked classics, constantly refreshing the listening experience for users on the platform.
The final wave of tracks from the Mario Kart World soundtrack was recently added, bringing over fourteen hours of incredible music to the streaming service. To celebrate this musical milestone, Nintendo didn’t just release tracks—they offered a full performance. They have shared stunning live performance videos captured in the studio, featuring full live bands performing the iconic themes, including the main ‘Mario World Theme’ and ‘Crown City’.
This celebration of sound and spectacle is part of a broader strategy to engage listeners. Nintendo Music, launched in 2024 as a phone application, gives Switch Online members access to a vast library of game soundtracks. It allows users to create custom playlists, enjoy extended loops of their favorite tracks, and utilize a new web player for listening on desktops or while driving. The platform is steadily growing, with new game soundtracks being added almost weekly.
The success of the music platform has drawn even bigger ambitions from Nintendo. President Shuntaro Furukawa has hinted that the platform’s popularity is inspiring larger artistic endeavors, suggesting the company is considering putting on a series of orchestral concert tours.
Meanwhile, the gaming world is also reflecting on the passage of time. Gaming innovator Hideo Kojima recently celebrated his 63rd birthday and shared some thoughtful reflections on aging, noting that as time goes on, the things we ‘want to do’ continue to increase, while the time we ‘have to do them’ decreases.
