Major Lazer headlines Melbourne’s New Year’s at the Bowl

Melbourne is gearing up for a monumental celebration, as the iconic New Year’s Eve event at The Bowl promises to be an unforgettable spectacle. This year, the festival returns for a second time amidst the beautiful Kings Domain gardens, setting the stage for an evening that blends global electronic music with a distinctly local, welcoming character.

Taking the helm for this spectacular countdown is the globally renowned Major Lazer. The trio, founded by Diplo and now rounded out by Walshy Fire, Ape Drums, and vocalist America Foster, bring their massive catalog of global hits to the Melbourne scene. Major Lazer’s legacy is built on chart-topping anthems like “Lean On,” which spent 48 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, and the massive summer smash “Cold Water,” featuring Justin Bieber.

The atmosphere extends far beyond the headline act. The New Year’s celebration is an immersive experience spanning the afternoon and early hours of 2027, meticulously organized across three distinct stages. Attendees will move seamlessly between The Bowl for main-stage energy, the Garden for soulful live music and disco rhythms, and the 360-degree Sundial for high-energy, club-oriented programming.

The diverse musical tapestry ensures a truly broad and full-of-character experience. The lineup is stacked with legends and innovators, featuring acts like Don West, DJ Seinfeld, Flight Facilities, CC:Disco!, Helena Hauff, and Todd Terje. Adding to the excitement, a special guest is still keeping a secret, set to close out the night’s countdown to midnight.

Promoter Mike Ross emphasized the vision behind the event, noting that the festival’s design successfully carries forward the distinct identity of each stage. The goal is to ensure that New Year’s At The Bowl remains unmistakably Melbourne: welcoming, musically broad, and full of character. The venue itself, which has been in continuous use since 1959, has proven to be the perfect setting for ushering in the new year.

With the unique setting and expansive musical scope, this New Year’s Eve celebration is poised to deliver a vibrant, memorable night, blending global music titans with local charm as the clock strikes midnight.

Tickets are now available for this highly anticipated event, with a presale running from Monday, September 7 through Tuesday, September 8, before general on-sale commences.
