Leon Bridges and Jungle Jam on New Album

Leon Bridges is trading introspection for pure movement, setting the stage for his fifth album, Happiness Anytime. This new project, set for release on September 25 through Columbia Records, marks an exciting creative alliance with the acclaimed U.K. musical duo Jungle, J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto.

Instead of a single grand unveiling, Bridges is letting the groove unfold in three distinct four-song installments, beginning with “Light the Way,” “Tears of Joy,” “Illusion,” and “Your Love Is Electric,” which are available now.

The creation of Happiness Anytime was anything but rigid. The album emerged from a spontaneous writing session in Los Angeles where Bridges, Lloyd-Watson, and Kitto dove into music with an infectious sense of ease. They adopted a simple yet powerful philosophy: they wouldn’t stop until every track was fully finished, fostering a dynamic environment where inspiration flowed freely.

This spontaneity defined the album’s character. The collaborators drew on a rich tapestry of global sounds, incorporating inspirations ranging from Fela Kuti and Brazilian rhythms to soul, disco, and Latin grooves. The session was further enriched by the presence of legendary bassist Pino Palladino, who helped shape the final soundscape.

The resulting music isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a mission statement. Kitto explains that the title reflects the album’s core message: music should be something everyone can put on no matter how they are feeling—a sonic invitation to happiness and dancing.

For Bridges, this work is a conscious effort to offer light amidst complex modern life. He hopes the record serves as a reminder that happiness isn’t something you have to chase; it’s a feeling that lingers deep within us. He aims for the music to settle in people’s bones and provide a necessary sense of buoyancy.

To further emphasize this communal joy, Bridges has also launched Leon Bridges Presents Happiness Anytime. This revamped live production brings the album’s spirit to life through an evolving format featuring a vinyl DJ, horn section, backing vocalists, and Bridges himself dancing front and center.
