The legendary Blue Note Jazz Club is ready to make some serious noise in the capital, announcing that its first UK location will open its doors next month. Situated right on St Martin’s Lane in Covent Garden, this historic venue promises to be more than just a jazz club; it aims to be a vibrant crucible where global musical legends and emerging British talent collide.

Set to open on September 23rd, the new London hub aims to capture the unmistakable atmosphere of its New York counterparts while infusing it with a distinctly modern sensibility. This is a celebration of music that pushes boundaries—a space designed for jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and everything in between.

The inaugural lineup already features some staggering talent. The grand opening will be headlined by five-time Grammy winner Robert Glasper, alongside artists such as Erykah Badu, Jamie Cullum, Nubya Garcia, and Yussef Dayes. This curated mix demonstrates the club’s commitment to a contemporary programme that champions both world-class international artists and exceptional homegrown UK talent.

The physical space itself is designed for flexibility and intimacy. It features a main room with 250 seats, hosting two shows nightly, perfect for immersive experiences. Additionally, a smaller 100-capacity ‘B-Side’ room will open later in the year, dedicated entirely to showcasing emerging artists.

Beyond the music, the venue offers a full culinary experience, providing contemporary food menus and signature cocktails throughout the week, making it a complete destination for city dwellers looking to unwind and indulge.

Robert Glasper, who will headline the opening weekend, shared his vision for the space. He believes that London has been a vital supporter of his career, and he is excited to create a place where diverse genres can meet and evolve fearlessly. “We want to build something that feels intimate, fearless, and alive,” he stated, emphasizing the desire to allow artists and audiences to experience music up close.

Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, the project faced some community scrutiny regarding running hours. Concerns were raised by local residents and the Met Police about late operating times and safety in the immediate area. However, the Music Venue Trust welcomed the license, affirming that Blue Note has secured the necessary permissions to flourish in central London.

With initial ticket sales launching soon, the new venue is poised not just to host incredible musical performances but to contribute significantly to London’s rich and diverse creative community.
