Kylie Minogue performing at the AFL Grand Final

Kylie Minogue Takes the Stage for an Epic AFL Grand Final Send-Off

The 2026 AFL Grand Final delivered a truly spectacular pre-game entertainment as Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue delivered a massive, unforgettable performance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Australian superstar headlined the festivities with a specially crafted 20-minute set that captivated more than 100,000 attendees before the Brisbane Lions faced the Fremantle Dockers.

Despite the build-up involving some weather uncertainty, the show proceeded in grand style. It was a dazzling spectacle involving multiple costume changes, dazzling pyrotechnics, and the involvement of over 100 dancers, culminating in Minogue suspended high above the MCG for the finale.

The performance began with a nod to her roots, weaving nostalgia into the show’s fabric. Minogue started by reciting lyrics from Mike Brady’s iconic Australian football anthem, ‘One Day In September’, with the melody subtly integrated into her track ‘Light Up’. This opening immediately set a tone of shared national memory and electrifying energy.

The journey through her discography was rapid and thrilling. The set moved seamlessly through beloved anthems like ‘Love At First Sight’, followed by a rapid-fire montage of career highlights including ‘In Your Eyes’, ‘Get Outta My Way’, and ‘Spinning Around’.

The mood then shifted into a more intimate moment as Minogue collaborated with Kalkadunga musician William Barton for a fresh arrangement of the 1994 single, ‘Confide In Me’. This moment demonstrated the collaborative spirit that defines her musical legacy.

The show continued to incorporate high-energy acts, featuring a rock-infused rendition of ‘Padam Padam’ alongside G Flip, and a massive production number of ‘The Loco-Motion’, which saw the involvement of 100 young performers recruited from Melbourne dance and performance schools. One of the dancers even portrayed a young Kylie, adding another layer of theatrical fun.

The grand finale brought the house down with a club-reworked version of ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, supplied by Dom Dolla. The performance peaked as Minogue took the song’s unmistakable refrain into the air, singing the hook above a giant football bearing her name while dancers circled below.

Beyond this grand spectacle, Kylie Minogue’s ongoing 2026 touring year is packed with high-profile collaborations. Earlier this summer, she shared the stage with Snow Patrol for the collaboration ‘These Alarms’ and ‘Chasing Cars’, and she also enjoyed a special reunion with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in Brighton for ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’, and a high-profile appearance with Madonna at WorldPride Amsterdam.
