Judge, who had previously starred in the reboot and the sequel Ragnarok, was initially in discussions to return as Kratos. However, an on-set injury forced him to step down, paving the way for other talents to take the helm. Eventually, the role is set to be filled by Dave Bautista, who will embody the Spartan warrior.
When asked about his decision, Judge offered a reflection on the demands of his career and the state of his personal life. He shared that while the thought of leaving a legacy for his grandson was compelling, his mind and body signaled a different path.
“I had talked and I thought, ‘God, what a great legacy to leave for my grandson.’ So I started working out. I got bigger,” Judge explained. He reflected on the physical toll of leading a role, admitting that the prospect of returning to that intense lifestyle was simply not appealing at that stage in his life.
At 62, Judge expressed a desire for a life free from the relentless demands of Hollywood. “I didn’t want to, at 62 years old, work 18-hour days. I didn’t want to be dieting constantly. I didn’t want to be working out constantly.”
