Kojima on time and creating new games as he ages

Hideo Kojima Reflects on Time and Legacy at Age 63

Gaming visionary Hideo Kojima recently celebrated his 63rd birthday, using the milestone to share some candid reflections on aging, creativity, and the relentless passage of time.

Beyond the celebration, Kojima took to social media to ponder the complex relationship between the obligations of life and the desires of the heart. He mused that as he gets older, the things he has to do and the things he wants to do continue to increase, forcing a constant reassessment of how time is spent.

“I turned 63. As I get older, the things I ‘have to do’ and the things I ‘want to do’ continue to increase,” he wrote, acknowledging the need to constantly reevaluate how he lives his life. He added that while this process requires careful management of time, he remains committed to his work, noting that once a pursuit begins, it cannot simply be abandoned.

The reflection touches upon the pressure of time in the creative world. Kojima expressed a feeling of racing against the clock, wondering how much longer he can remain “creative.” This introspection was paired with a slightly theatrical desire—he once joked that he would like to die in a cinema, just before the film began.

Despite these philosophical musings, Kojima remains deeply engaged with his legacy and future projects. He recently marked a significant milestone, noting that 2026 will mark his 40th anniversary in game creation and the ten-year anniversary of his own Kojima Productions studio.

Looking ahead, the mastermind is actively pursuing new creative avenues. He is currently focused on developing two major new IPs: the horror anthology OD and the action espionage title Physint. While the release date for the horror project remains unannounced, the action game is slated for a later launch, reportedly in 2030.

Furthermore, Kojima is involved in expanding the visual storytelling legacy, including various live-action and anime adaptations related to his acclaimed Death Stranding universe. He reiterated his dedication, thanking his audience for their continued support as he focuses on making games for the rest of his life.
