Knocked Loose & Denzel Curry live ‘Hive Mind’ in Brooklyn

When raw metalcore meets trap-infused rap, something explosive happens. Kentucky hardcore band Knocked Loose and Florida rapper Denzel Curry joined forces to unleash their single, Hive Mind, demonstrating that the most intense sounds often come from unexpected places.

The track, released in February, is a visceral collision of styles. It fuses Knocked Loose’s heavy metalcore sound with Denzel Curry’s rapid-fire delivery and modern trap influences, creating a sonic landscape that is both chaotic and undeniably catchy.

This potent combination wasn’t just confined to the studio; it exploded onto the scene live. On Tuesday night, the duo took their collaboration to Brooklyn for a surprise pop-up show at Substance Skatepark. The event drew a massive crowd, further amplified by the presence of New York hardcore band Combust.

The atmosphere in the skatepark was electric. As Knocked Loose delivered their set, Denzel Curry stepped into the spotlight, performing his verse on Hive Mind alongside frontman Bryan Garris. The energy spilled over as the packed skatepark descended into a frenzy of moshing and crowd-surfing.

The performance captured the raw energy of the song perfectly. The accompanying video, filmed at a local skatepark, showed the band’s intensity in action, illustrating how seamlessly their unique sound translated to a live setting.

Behind the creation of the track was a story of creative synergy. When discussing the collaboration, Garris explained that they had been looking to work with Curry for some time, insisting that he was the only artist capable of making the song truly resonate.

“We wondered if we could pull it off and who would be down,” Garris noted. “In the very beginning, we said for it to work, it would have to be Denzel Curry. Because he gets it.”

Knocked Loose’s journey into heavier sounds has been defined by embracing intensity. Garris shared that the group is inspired by audience reaction, embracing the chaos they introduce into their sound.

“We see people reacting positively to all of this chaos that we’re introducing to our sound and we get inspired by that feedback, inspired by past extremes working. That’s how it will stay,” he said.

This new single arrived as Knocked Loose‘s first fresh music since their 2024 album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, following their Grammy-nominated collaboration Suffocate.

Denzel Curry’s own artistic output is equally dynamic, highlighted by his collaborative album Strictly 4 The Scythe, released in March.

The momentum from this collaboration is building as Knocked Loose and Curry prepare to hit the road. They will kick off their co-headline Hive Mind North American tour at the MegaCorp Pavilion in Newport, Kentucky on September 26, embarking on a continent-spanning journey that wraps up in Mexico City on November 8.
