Parker recently opened up about the intense technical experience behind creating that signature sound. Speaking on the podcast Tape Notes, he dove into the technical elements of recording the track, recounting his time tracking “Loser” with Loren Humphrey at the legendary Diamond Mine studio in New York.
The process of capturing the song involved chasing a specific, slightly distorted tape sound that became central to the track’s atmosphere. Parker emphasized how unique this production felt. He recalled bringing the recorded stems back to his own studio afterward, noting a profound shift in perception.
“What is absolutely criminal about this song,” Parker stated, “is how few people have said how good it sounds. It’s the most incredible Tame Impala sounding song out there. I’ll say that objectively.”
He described the effect of the session on the recording itself, explaining that the resulting sound felt incredibly rich. He noted that listening to the track created a sense of depth, as if the sounds possessed different amounts of dimension. He reflected that the song just sounded three-dimensional, an experience he still feels acutely.
Despite this objective sense of sonic brilliance, Parker expressed a familiar frustration: that the sheer quality and innovation of the recording often go unnoticed. He suggested that while the track might not receive the credit it deserves among other Tame Impala recordings, he remains confident in its impact.
