Katie & Kevin Welcome the Waxababy

Sometimes, life delivers an encore before you even realize the set is over. For musician Kevin Morby and his partner Katie Crutchfield, this week brought a wonderful, unexpected addition to their family: a baby boy.

The timing of the arrival certainly added a layer of delightful chaos to their recent travels. Morby recently shared that he returned from his European tour just in time for their little beautiful baby to kick the door in two weeks ahead of schedule. It turns out, some things simply move at their own pace, and sometimes, they arrive exactly when you least expect them.

Morby admitted that the trip had been somewhat tense; he didn’t want to miss the birth. He recalled holding his breath, wondering if the timing would align with his schedule. But fate—or perhaps the baby’s timeline—had other plans for him. Morby noted that he found himself home all but eight hours before Katie’s water broke, suggesting that the little guy was certainly waiting patiently for him.

In the midst of this joyous shift, Morby made a necessary pause in his touring schedule, canceling his performance at the Eaux Claires festival in Wisconsin to focus on family. Now, the focus has shifted entirely to new priorities. He is currently enjoying the role of father, listening to Grouper’s “Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping” on repeat while holding his newborn.

Katie Crutchfield, meanwhile, has been embracing her pregnancy with grace. Earlier this year, she was visibly pregnant during her tour with MJ Lenderman, showcasing a natural glow that perfectly complemented the joy of their expanding family.

The experience highlights how life weaves unexpected threads—a perfect blend of creative pursuits and profound personal milestones. For Morby and Crutchfield, this recent event is a beautiful reminder that the most memorable moments are often those that arrive precisely when you need them most.
