JAŸ-Z IN 8 Soundtrack Visuals and Tracks

When legacy meets the studio, the resulting conversation is often unforgettable. Rapper JAŸ-Z and legendary producer Rick Rubin have joined forces for a deeply personal and illuminating documentary series titled JAŸ-Z IN 8.

Filmed over two intense days in Paris, the eight-part series is more than a simple retrospective; it is an extended, raw conversation dissecting the rapper’s musical history, the depth of his lyrics, personal life experiences, and the intricate process of his creative genius.

Rubin steps into the director’s chair for his debut documentary project, guiding the exploration, while he and JAŸ-Z share executive producer roles alongside Daniel Kaluuya. The ambitious project is brought to life through the production efforts of Tetragrammaton and HBO Documentary Films.

Instead of a linear biography, the documentary adopts a unique structure. Each episode uses carefully selected songs from JAŸ-Z’s catalog as jumping-off points, allowing the duo to delve into the stories and motivations hidden behind the rhythm and rhyme.

The series arrives at a pivotal moment for JAŸ-Z, coinciding with major anniversaries in his career, including the 30th anniversary of his seminal 1996 album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint.

The soundtrack for the series offers a rich tapestry of musical history. Early chapters dive into collaborations with heavyweights like Mary J. Blige and The Notorious B.I.G., alongside tracks spanning major milestones such as Reasonable Doubt, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, The Blueprint 2, and The Black Album.

For example, the opening episodes explore tracks like Can’t Knock The Hustle, featuring a collaboration with Mary J. Blige, and Brooklyn’s Finest, featuring The Notorious B.I.G. and JAŸ-Z.

These first two chapters are currently available on MUBI in the UK, with two new episodes released weekly until the series concludes on October 9th. Fans can catch the conversation and the music and explore the journey of a musical icon in depth.
