Inked & Amped Rock the Ramova in Chicago
In Chicago, a unique convergence of music, art, and counterculture exploded inside a historic landmark this past Thursday. Maverick x SPIN’s second Inked & Amped event transformed the Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport into a vibrant hub where indie sounds collided with independent makers, fashion, and tattoo artistry.
This wasn’t just a concert; it was a temporary home for the city’s DIY community, welcoming 21-plus adults for an evening that felt less like a traditional performance and more like an open-air marketplace for creative expression.
The Ramova, a beautiful 1929 venue that serves as a concert hall, brewery, and grill, provided the perfect historic backdrop for the high-energy gathering. It became a crucible where Chicago’s alternative, grunge, punk, and indie communities converged.
The musical journey was equally diverse. The night kicked off with the raw, energetic blend of punk, grunge, and metal from Bad Skin, immediately setting a loud tone. This was followed by the atmospheric experimentation of Chicago’s Iris Blue, who brought a more introspective blend of indie rock and shoegaze to the stage.
La Rosa Noir then pulled the room deeper into a hypnotic soundscape, weaving together grunge, surf rock, and classic ’60s guitar tones. The evening culminated with Bully, a band that delivered a high-octane mix of ’90s-influenced grunge and punk. Their set featured everything from the roaring anthem Days Move Slow to the surprisingly intimate piano ballad Atom Bomb, ensuring a perfect emotional arc.
But the true magic of Inked & Amped lay beyond the music. Throughout the performances, the Ramova’s surroundings became a dynamic marketplace. Local tattoo artists, including Stay Lucky Tattoo, provided live flash designs, while other vendors showcased handmade candles from Bad Moms Collective, custom artwork from Catch Wreck Creatives, and vintage-minded goods from Feel the Leather and The Alley Chicago.
Guests weren’t just spectators; they were participants. They navigated the space, got inked, shopped for unique fashion, and mingled with fellow fans, turning the historic space into a living testament to Chicago’s independent creative spirit.
The atmosphere was perfectly complemented by the refreshments. Off Hours Beer Co. kept the energy flowing with their local hazy IPA and lager, while the bar served up custom drinks like the Maverick Margarita and signature red and green Jell-O shots, adding a distinctly local flavor to the celebration.
The Ramova proved to be the ideal canvas for this event. By successfully blending high-caliber music with a thriving ecosystem of local art, fashion, and independent businesses, Inked & Amped demonstrated how a community-focused event can honor history while celebrating the vibrant, evolving creative pulse of a city.
