Ottawa Opens Doors for Global Music Connection at Indie Week

Ottawa is set to become a major hub for music discovery and industry collaboration as the city launches its inaugural Indie Week festival and conference, running from November 12 to 14. More than just a series of concerts, this event is positioning Ottawa as an exciting nexus where local talent can connect with a global network, fostering the next chapter for the city’s vibrant music community.

To kick off this ambitious initiative, organizers have officially opened the call for artist applications. This invitation extends far beyond the stage; successful applicants will gain access to crucial industry programming designed to accelerate careers and expand musical horizons.

The opportunity is rich and multifaceted. Artists will have the chance to perform live showcases, participate in industry panels, build essential professional relationships, and delve into specialized programming focused on artist development, music export strategies, monetization techniques, promotion, and synchronization deals.

Darryl Hurs, founder of Indie Week (f.k.a. VENUExVENUE), emphasized the city’s potential. “Ottawa is an exciting city for the next chapter of Indie Week,” Hurs stated. “We have a strong and growing music community, and our goal is to connect its artists and industry professionals with people from across Canada and around the world. We aim to create meaningful opportunities and relationships that continue long after the festival ends.”

This vision aligns perfectly with broader goals for the regional music scene. Mélanie Brulée, executive director of the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC), highlighted the significance of the partnership between Indie Week and local organizations.

“Bringing INDIE WEEK to Ottawa is a huge opportunity for our music community and another important step in connecting our local industry with the rest of Canada and the world,” Brulée noted. She added that this collaboration will facilitate meaningful opportunities for artists and professionals to build careers, showcase Ottawa’s unique creativity, and establish lasting relationships.

The partnership seeks to cultivate a true Music City—one where local talent is celebrated and industry professionals are eager to engage with the city’s creative spirit. Delegates will have the chance to experience Ottawa’s talent and collaborative energy firsthand.

Interested artists can submit their applications for Indie Week Ottawa by the deadline of July 31. The festival seeks Canadian and international acts across most contemporary original music genres, with the exception of classical, traditional jazz, children’s music, or musical theatre.
