Nearly fifty years after David Bowie set the world on fire, the legendary performances from his 1978 shows remain largely locked away. But that silence is about to shatter. A breathtaking new immersive concert experience is finally bringing those unreleased moments to life, promising to make the history of Bowie feel less like a film and more like a living, breathing event.

This spectacular project, titled Stage, is a deep dive into the archives, combining restored 35mm concert footage with cutting-edge technology. It’s a collaboration built around the rich history of the artist, featuring input from the David Bowie Estate and the live entertainment company Wonderworld, founded by former AEG Live international president Rob Hallett.

The vision behind Stage is nothing short of theatrical. The goal is to capture the magic of Bowie during his Isolar II tour, featuring material from the seminal albums “Heroes” and Low. This isn’t just a screening; it’s an act of resurrection, aiming to make the footage feel as if David Bowie and his band have materialized right there on stage.

To achieve this level of immersion, the production team enlisted world-class talent. The visual spectacle will be crafted using large-scale projections and transparent LED screens, perfectly complemented by lighting designed by Patrick Woodroffe—the same visionary credited with stunning work for the Rolling Stones and Elton John. The sonic landscape will be equally epic, featuring immersive audio mixed by the Oscar-winning Paul Massey, known for his work on classics like Bohemian Rhapsody and No Time To Die.

The process of unveiling this material began long before the announcement, with filmmaker Brett Morgen, who previously created the expansive portrait in his documentary Moonage Daydream. Morgen reportedly uncovered the raw footage a decade ago, and the idea for a standalone presentation took shape in 2018 before gaining momentum in 2024.

The world premiere of Stage is set for February 14th at Berlin’s Uber Arena, coinciding with the 77th Berlin International Film Festival. From there, the immersive experience will tour Europe, with dates planned for May, followed by performances across the U.K. in June and July, including a return to Earls Court.

This project aligns perfectly with the broader global celebration of Bowie’s legacy, which includes the Bowie80 year-long campaign. Beyond the concert footage, the celebration encompasses exhibitions, archival projects, and symphonic productions like BOWIE (breaking) GLASS, pairing Bowie’s recordings with a live orchestra and the music of Philip Glass. Meanwhile, the exhibition David Bowie: You’re Not Alone is expanding its reach to cities like Manchester, Brighton, and Hamburg.

The launch of Stage is more than a concert; it is a masterclass in how history can be reimagined, offering audiences a chance to witness a legend not just remembered, but actively reborn in stunning, immersive detail.
