Hear Erasure’s new album “Wings Of Love” on Radio
The history of synthpop is often defined by brilliant, fleeting partnerships, and few stories are as compelling as the journey of Vince Clarke. Known as a true synthpop wizard, Clarke contributed some of the most indelible rhythms of the early 1980s to the genre, but finding the perfect artistic home for his genius took time.
His initial breakthrough came with Depeche Mode, where he penned the melodies and foundations for the classic 1981 debut, Speak & Spell. While his work was foundational, Clarke eventually sought out new creative avenues, seeking a partnership that matched his unique vision.
His quest for collaboration led him through other exciting projects. He teamed up with Alison Moyet to form Yazoo, releasing two excellent LPs before the duo eventually dissolved. The search for the next creative connection continued, prompting Clarke to place an ad in NME, which ultimately led him to Andy Bell.
This serendipitous meeting blossomed into a long-term creative alliance. Together, Clarke and Bell formed the band Erasure, a duo that has continued to create compelling music ever since.
The creative momentum of Erasure continued to build, recently highlighted by the release of the album Radio!! Radio!!, which featured the track Wings Of Love.
