LUCY (Cooper B. Handy) is one of the most creatively prolific voices in the New England music scene, a musician whose decade-long immersion in avant-pop has yielded a catalog full of wonderfully strange and infectious sounds.
Beyond his solo work, Handy is an active force in the collaborative landscape, frequently teaming up with fellow artists to explore new sonic territories. He is known for his work with the lo-fi rock duo Taxidermists alongside childhood friend Salvadore McNamara, and he’s also contributed to the electro-pop project Safe Mind with Gus Muller. His creative orbit extends further still, connecting with the dance world through his project Club Casualties, where he works with producer Ghost.
Handy’s creative life is clearly anything but confined. He even shares studio space with Prewn’s Izzy Hagerup, underscoring a vibrant and interconnected musical community.
Recently, Handy dropped some exciting news, unveiling his newest album, CITIZEN’S ARREST, set to arrive on October 9th. Kicking off the release is the single COURTSIDE, a track that immediately captures the delightfully unstable spirit of his music.
The new single itself is a sonic delight, described as sounding like a toddler taking a determined, wobbly walk up a giant flight of inflatable stairs. It’s a playful, slanted, and wonderfully wobbly auditory experience that perfectly embodies the playful chaos of the new album.
