Harry Fowler drops solo album Blankets
Harry Fowler Unveils Intimate Solo Album Blankets
Guitarist Harry Fowler, best known for his heavy contributions to the grunge-tinged sound of Wunderhorse, has unexpectedly released his solo debut album, Blankets, offering listeners a starkly different, deeply personal musical experience.
Without warning, Fowler uploaded the entire project to streaming platforms and simultaneously shared the album’s focus single, ‘Perfect Colours,’ signaling a deliberate shift in his artistic focus.
For over a decade, Fowler has navigated the energetic, hooky grunge that captured mainstream attention with Wunderhorse. Now, however, he has carved out a quieter, more intimate catalogue of softer sounds, a collection that feels deliberately at odds with the intensity of his earlier work.
The official materials for Blankets describe the collection as “sparse and intimate,” a compilation of tracks that Fowler has accumulated since his teenage years. Critics have drawn comparisons to artists like Elliott Smith, alongside shared influences with his bandmate Jacob Slater.
The mood of the album is perfectly captured by the focal single, ‘Perfect Colours.’ It settles into a crackly, acoustic, and soothing soundscape, featuring Fowler singing softly over a simple, gentle piano line, exploring themes of finding peace and connection.
This new body of work showcases a complete side of Fowler’s creativity, moving away from the crunchy guitars into a deeply reflective space. The release is being distributed in a limited format, with a batch of 300 vinyl copies available directly from harryfowler.com.
Reflecting on this creative journey, Fowler shared insights into the process behind the music. When discussing his previous album, Midas, he noted that the experience taught him to embrace spontaneity. He recalled moments where he would second-guess his choices, but working with producers like Craig helped him adjust his mindset, realizing that allowing creative mistakes could lead to the most authentic outcomes.
While the solo project provides a moment of introspection, Wunderhorse remains busy. The band has recently concluded an extensive period, touring widely across North America and the UK festival circuit, and is now gearing up for major upcoming engagements, including support slots on Sam Fender’s forthcoming Proper Massive Stadium Tour 2027.
