Hackers taunt Rockstar over GTA leaks

The anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to simmer, fueled by a steady stream of gameplay leaks that are keeping the online community buzzing. As the game approaches its November 19 release, speculation about the development process and Rockstar Games’ marketing strategies is reaching a fever pitch.

Most recently, four new gameplay videos have surfaced, offering glimpses into the world of the game. These leaks aren’t just about mechanics; they carry a distinct, meta-commentary. One particularly eye-catching leak included a cutscene that seemed to directly address the publishers, accompanied by a message that playfully targeted the release strategy: “No physical discs? Then more leeks!”

This latest batch of footage arrives just a week before the highly anticipated Extended Look premieres on Netflix. While the footage itself provides tantalizing looks at the game’s world, the surrounding context highlights the ongoing tension between the developers and a segment of the fanbase, particularly concerning access to content.

Rockstar Games’ decision to implement a streaming paywall for the Extended Look initially sparked some frustration among fans who were hoping for more immediate access. This tension is not new. The rollout of GTA6 has been accompanied by a history of leaks, leading to public disputes. Earlier in the year, Rockstar had fired staff after accusations of sharing confidential information, and in 2022, a British teenager had been arrested for hacking the company and leaking hours of development footage.

Despite the ongoing leaks, industry figures suggest that concerns over further exposure have been addressed. Even rumors that the physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6 might be delayed have been debunked by Take Two boss Strauss Zelnick, who confirmed the planned release timeline.

Looking ahead to the launch, market trends reveal a clear preference among players. New figures indicate that the majority of fans are choosing to preorder the more expensive Ultimate edition rather than the Standard edition. This aligns with Rockstar’s prior confirmation that the Ultimate version will feature several exclusive in-game features.

Physical copies of the game will, of course, be available for purchase, but they will contain only download codes instead of physical discs. These editions will hit stores on November 12, offering players a week of pre-loading before the official release on November 19. As the game approaches its launch, the conversation continues to revolve not just the action on screen, but the fascinating, sometimes frustrating, story behind its creation.
