GWAR’s First Video Game Collab in 30 Years
In a move that echoes the chaotic spirit of the era it celebrates, heavy metal legends GWAR have finally announced their first video game collaboration in more than three decades.
For fans who grew up with the iconic ’90s cartoon Beavis & Butt-Head, GWAR was more than just a band; they were the soundtrack to teenage mischief. Their music made an indelible mark on gaming culture, appearing in titles like Guitar Hero 5 and Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes The Neighborhood, cementing their place in the multimedia landscape.
Now, that history is about to collide with the world of competitive sports and brutal arcade action. GWAR is diving headfirst into the world of football with the confirmed addition of the Antarctica Scumbags expansion for Mutant Football League 2.
This expansion is set to bring the anarchic energy of the band to the frozen tundra of the Mutant Football League, promising a game that blends intense gameplay, outrageous humor, weapons, and deep strategy.
The GWAR contingent will be represented by some of the most physically destructive characters in the game. Playable characters include Blöthar The Berserker, BälSäc The Jaws ‘O Death, iZMak Da Gusha, Grodius Maximus, Beefcake The Mighty, Sawborg Destructo, and Bonesnapper. These GWAR mutants are designed around a philosophy of pure brutality, ensuring every match becomes a white-knuckle battle for survival.
As Blöthar The Berserker declared, the team is ready to take over: “Today, the Antarctican Scumdogs of GWAR take to the frozen tundra of the Mutant Football League, where killing isn’t everything, it’s the ONLY thing! Let the games begin.”
The expansion, which is scheduled for release in October 2026, will feature a new stadium packed with GWAR lore and Easter eggs, deepening the immersion for fans of the band.
Beyond the gaming news, GWAR is also engaging with contemporary music. Later this month, the band will be re-releasing their Devin Townsend-produced album Beyond Hell ahead of a US tour. The producer reflected on the enduring magic of the group: “GWAR were, and are, an amazing combination of artistic freedom, absurdity, and hard work bundled up with metal and performance. Loved them then, love them now.”
Adding another layer to their public persona, GWAR recently went viral for their brutal cover of Chappell Roan’s hit “Pink Pony Club,” demonstrating their continuing knack for theatrical and heavy-hitting performance.
