For artists and listeners alike, understanding the schedule is the first step in preparing for what promises to be an exciting celebration of musical excellence.

The critical dates for entry are set firmly in motion. Artists have until August 21, 2026, to submit their online entries. The voting process kicks off on October 12 and runs through the 22nd, 2026. Following this, nominations will be announced on November 16, 2026, setting the stage for the final round of voting.

The culmination of the awards is scheduled for February 7, 2027, when the 69th Annual Grammy Awards will officially take place. To ensure fair consideration, eligibility criteria require that all nominated recordings must have been released between August 31, 2025, and August 28, 2026. Furthermore, these works must be commercially available through general distribution or made accessible via a recognized streaming service.

This year, the Grammy Academy is making some significant shifts to better reflect the global and diverse landscape of contemporary music. The committee has expanded its genres, introducing five brand-new categories designed to spotlight emerging sounds and cross-cultural achievements.

Among these exciting additions are categories dedicated to specific cultural styles. There will be recognition for Best Asian Pop Music Performance, celebrating the artistic brilliance found in K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop that meaningfully utilizes Asian languages. Another major addition is Best Latin Song, which honors songwriters for tracks featuring at least 51% Spanish lyrics.

The Academy is also refining categories to recognize specific musical forms. The nomination structure now includes Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, highlighting styles that maintain a distinct traditional pop aesthetic separate from mainstream trends. Additionally, the focus on folk music has been refined with the introduction of Best Traditional Folk Album, which takes the place of the former Best Folk Album category.

Finally, recognizing collaborative and contemporary sounds, the Academy is introducing Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance. This adjustment will see the existing Best R&B Performance category be renamed to Best R&B Solo Performance, emphasizing the dynamic nature of modern musical partnerships.
