George Michael at his Peak Faith Tour Concert Film Action
The music of George Michael continues to echo through the halls of pop culture, but a new cinematic release promises to bring his peak creative energy to the screen. A newly restored concert film is set to capture the British pop superstar at the zenith of his powers in the late 1980s, offering fans a vibrant look back at a pivotal era of his career.
This special feature documents the landmark 1988 European leg of the Faith Tour. Shot during the run at Paris’ Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, the film provides an intimate and dynamic look at the artist, just two years after the WHAM! era had concluded and following the release of his solo debut album, Faith.
The production team, led by longtime collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, utilized footage restored and remastered from an extensive 14-camera shoot captured on 35mm film across two nights. Beyond the concert footage, the film incorporates an original short film by Mary McCartney, utilizing newly discovered audio and imagery from the 1986 to 1988 period when Michael was writing and performing Faith.
The resulting film doesn’t just document a tour; it is a deep dive into the creative crossroads of an artist who defined a generation. It showcases snippets of his iconic work, including performances of Careless Whisper alongside solo tracks like Father Figure and Faith. As Michael himself noted regarding the song Faith, he believed life was still going to deliver.
The cinematic experience is poised to be accompanied by an equally compelling musical release. An accompanying live album, titled The Faith Tour, will be released globally through Sony Music. This 18-track set features previously unreleased performances from the world tour, spanning material from Michael’s solo catalogue and his earlier work with Wham!.
Michael’s solo work was immensely successful, with the 1987 album Faith earning a Grammy Award for album of the year and achieving four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: Faith, Father Figure, One More Try, and Monkey. He remains the only British male solo artist to achieve this feat from a single album.
