Geordie Greep cancels tour dates over misconduct claims

The world of music often thrives on creativity and connection, but sometimes, that light is overshadowed by intense public scrutiny. Recently, the high-profile world of rock music faced a moment of intense focus when former Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep addressed serious allegations that surfaced following a performance in Vancouver.

The situation came to a head when flyers distributed outside the Pearl venue accused Greep of sexual assault. The messages circulated online, demanding accountability and expressing outrage over the events. In response to this public outcry, Greep took the stage shortly thereafter, stepping forward to address the accusations directly.

During his appearance, Greep spoke about the events that led to the flyers, offering a candid account of what transpired. He acknowledged that in a situation that unfolded at a house party, he made a move that resulted in someone feeling uncomfortable. He emphasized that this was a complete misunderstanding and apologized for making someone uncomfortable without intent.

“I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and extremely upset about the whole situation,” Greep stated, clarifying that he would never rape a woman and insisted that the circumstances of the incident did not justify the allegations. He firmly stated that he was not a rapist and that the incident was the result of a misjudgment.

To demonstrate his commitment to transparency and to prioritize the well-being of others, Greep announced that he would perform the Vancouver concert solo, choosing not to force the audience to remain in a situation influenced by the allegations. Furthermore, he announced that proceeds from the performance would be donated to an anti-violence organization in British Columbia.

The fallout from these events extended beyond the stage. Following the public discussion, Greep made significant changes to his upcoming travel plans, immediately canceling several dates on his North American tour. Concerts scheduled in cities like Boise, Idaho, and Salt Lake City, Utah, were called off, as were upcoming shows in Boulder and Denver, Colorado.

While some dates remained scheduled, including the final two stops in Des Moines, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska, the uncertainty created by the situation led to widespread cancellations. Despite the disruption, Greep is still set to embark on a European tour beginning in the Netherlands, followed by performances in France, Spain, and Portugal, showing a continued dedication to his music even amidst personal challenges.
