Geordie Greep cancels 5 US shows over misconduct allegation
The planned North American tour for musician Geordie Greep has been abruptly halted, with five scheduled US shows cancelled following an allegation of sexual misconduct.
The decision comes after Greep addressed the controversy live on stage in Vancouver earlier this week. The event followed reports of an allegation of sexual misconduct, which Greep publicly denied on stage, offering his account of the situation to the audience.
The tour was set to continue with dates in cities like Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, Denver, and Omaha. All these dates have now been called off, leaving only a single US date remaining in Des Moines on October 15th, alongside an upcoming European run.
The tension between the private nature of the incident and the demands of public performance created a difficult situation for Greep and his touring band. Ahead of the Vancouver show, flyers circulated that included provocative phrases, which added another layer of complexity to the situation.
When addressing the allegations live, Greep spoke openly about the circumstances. He recounted that the events occurred following a night out and a house party where he felt he misunderstood the situation. He emphasized that he felt extremely sorry and upset, insisting that he would never rape a woman and that the incident was a complete misunderstanding.
During his on-stage response, Greep explained why he chose to perform alone. He stated that the incident was deeply unsettling and scary, making it impossible to proceed with the band in the light of the events. He clarified that he felt the need to be transparent with the audience about what transpired.
He concluded his statement by offering a path forward, letting attendees know that refunds or departures were acceptable, and announced that the proceeds from the Vancouver show would be donated to an anti-violence organization in British Columbia.
Following the confrontation, Greep performed a shortened solo set. This event occurs during a period of significant professional transition for the artist, who launched his solo career after Black Midi entered an indefinite split in 2024, releasing his debut album ‘The New Sound’ later that year.
