Garfunkel postpones UK tour due to respiratory infection

A Note of Rest: Art Garfunkel Postpones UK Tour to Prioritize Health

The anticipated journey of Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon, the much-loved ‘What A Wonderful World’ tour, has been put on hold. The legendary singer has postponed his upcoming series of UK performances after receiving a diagnosis of a respiratory infection, choosing to prioritize rest and recovery.

The postponement affects the planned dates across Watford, Manchester, Wolverhampton, and London, which were set to begin in October.

Garfunkel revealed that the need for a health check led directly to the diagnosis during rehearsals. He explained that while preparing for the concerts, he nearly delayed an important doctor’s appointment, a situation his wife insisted he address immediately.

“As it turns out, I have been diagnosed with a respiratory infection, and my doctor has advised me to take some time to rest and recover,” Garfunkel shared. He expressed deep sadness about having to postpone the shows, reflecting on how much joy he finds in sharing his music with audiences.

“Singing for you has always been one of the greatest joys of my life, and the thought of disappointing you saddens me deeply,” he stated. He emphasized that the warmth and love received from audiences is a gift beyond words, making the decision to pause a performance particularly difficult.

Despite the setback, Garfunkel remains optimistic about the future. He assured fans that he expects to return to the stage as soon as his health permits, promising to continue sharing his voice.

The logistical challenge now lies in rescheduling the performances. Organizers are working to arrange new dates, and ticket holders have been advised to retain their tickets while the planning is underway.

Garfunkel’s musical career has seen its share of challenges. He previously navigated significant vocal health issues, including a period in 2010 when a planned reunion tour was abandoned following vocal cord paresis. However, the story of the Simon & Garfunkel duo is marked by profound reconciliation. In 2024, Garfunkel and Paul Simon publicly reconciled after years of separation, sharing an emotional meeting that led to hugs and sweet candour.

Most recently, Garfunkel released the album Father And Son in 2024, a collaborative record with his son, Art Garfunkel Jr., further showcasing his enduring connection to music and family.
