Frozen Stars tease new music at D23
Frozen 3 is officially in full swing, and the excitement surrounding the franchise’s new musical direction is already snowballing.
The anticipation reached a fever pitch when stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad reunited on stage at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California. They weren’t just there for a casual appearance; they used the opportunity to tease new music ahead of the animated film’s highly anticipated 2027 theatrical release.
The musical moment was pure magic. Bell and Menzel took the stage to belt out a rendition of “Frozen Heart,” while Gad delivered a charming new song dedicated to his snowman character, Olaf, titled “Ooooh, Samantha.”
Beyond the catchy tunes, the trio offered tantalizing glimpses into the story of Frozen 3. Kristen Bell revealed that Anna will finally find love with her “mountain man,” Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff). Idina Menzel teased that “love is in the air for everyone,” prompting a playful inquiry from Bell about Olaf’s place in that equation.
Gad shared that his snowman’s love story is unique, likening it to “one snowflake in a blizzard of other snowflakes.” Menzel added that their characters will be venturing “far from Arendelle” and facing a threat that is “more wild and dangerous than anything else” they have encountered.
The musical legacy of the franchise has been monumental. The original Frozen soundtrack became a chart powerhouse, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2014 and holding the top spot for thirteen weeks that year. Furthermore, the signature anthem, “Let It Go,” performed by Menzel, spent 33 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
Frozen II followed suit, with its soundtrack also achieving No. 1 status on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart in 2019. The films themselves have proven to be massive commercial successes, with the original grossing $1.28 billion worldwide and Frozen II topping that mark with $1.45 billion.
For the next chapter, Disney has brought back the songwriting magic by having Oscar-winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez return to craft new music. Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy will also be directing the film, setting the stage for a highly anticipated cinematic experience slated for release on November 24, 2027.
