Fresh Finds is evolving beyond a simple playlist
In a move designed to turn momentary playlist fame into lasting career momentum, Spotify is launching Fresh Finds Forward, a year-long artist-development program aimed at supporting approximately 10,000 emerging independent artists annually.
Launched recently, the initiative is designed to address a critical gap in the streaming ecosystem: how artists can translate sudden discovery into sustainable professional growth. It is an attempt to move beyond the fleeting attention of a playlist placement and provide tangible support for the infrastructure needed to build a career.
Artists who qualify by being added to a Fresh Finds playlist starting January 1, 2026, will receive a comprehensive suite of resources over twelve months. This program is packed with opportunities, including free studio time, access to music-production tools, wellness resources, exclusive industry programming, and potential touring and video opportunities.
The benefits are substantial. Participants gain premium access to tools like LANDR Studio Pro and Splice’s Creator Plan, early access to select Spotify products, virtual and in-person events, and six months of therapy through BetterHelp.
For U.S.-based artists, the program includes exciting physical opportunities, allowing them to access free studio time at renowned locations such as Electric Lady Studios in New York, The Lighthouse at Ocean Way Nashville, or Spotify Studios in Los Angeles.
Spotify is also aiming to connect this momentum to the industry. Participants will receive prioritized consideration for potential tour and music video partnerships, and a special Fresh Finds badge will appear on their profiles, signaling their involvement in the program.
The impact of this initiative is already significant. The Fresh Finds network has served as Spotify’s editorial showcase for over a decade, featuring more than 80,000 artists from 127 countries. Since 2024, these playlists have generated more than 128 million new artist discoveries, with nearly 70% of streams coming from listeners encountering the artist for the first time.
Alumni of the program include major names like Laufey, Clairo, Doechii, Ice Spice, and Omar Apollo, demonstrating the power of the platform to surface talent. While playlist visibility is a powerful launchpad, the program recognizes that this attention alone is not enough to secure a lasting business or career.
As Joe Hadley, Spotify’s Global Head of Music Content and Partnerships, puts it, participating artists are not just receiving a placement; they are getting the necessary benefits, resources, and community to make the most of their discovery moment. Fresh Finds Forward represents Spotify’s concrete answer to the challenge of converting visibility into durable, long-term growth for the next generation of independent music.
