Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Series Vinyl
A Symphony of Adventure: Final Fantasy Unveils 40th Anniversary Vinyl
The legendary world of Final Fantasy is marking a monumental milestone, and the celebration is set to be heard in a brand-new way. Square Enix has unveiled details for a special 40th-anniversary vinyl release, bringing the epic musical scores from the entire mainline series into a collectible format.
Titled The Crystal Vinyl Edition, this double LP promises an immersive journey through four decades of fantasy storytelling. Instead of a single score, fans will receive a carefully curated collection, featuring one iconic song from every mainline game, stretching from the original Final Fantasy in 1987 all the way to the latest entry, Final Fantasy 16.
This isn’t just a collection of tunes; it’s a musical timeline tracing the emotional arcs of the series. As the press release noted, the album aims to capture the “moments of epic journeys, bonds of friendship, battles against formidable enemies, and unforgettable farewells” that have resonated across generations of players.
The tracklist is a masterful snapshot of the series’ evolution. Side A features foundational themes, including ‘Main Theme’ from the original game, followed by themes from Final Fantasy 2 and Final Fantasy 3, setting the stage for legendary moments like ‘Love Theme’ from Final Fantasy 4.
Side B delves into beloved narrative highlights, offering pieces like ‘One-Winged Angel’ from Final Fantasy 7 and ‘You Are Not Alone’ from Final Fantasy 9. The selection continues with tracks from Final Fantasy 10, Final Fantasy 11, Final Fantasy 12, Final Fantasy 13, and the concluding piece, ‘Away’ from Final Fantasy 16.
The release is slated for pre-order now from Square Enix Japan, with the physical vinyl expected to ship in January 2027. Beyond the music, the anniversary celebration is taking a broader, orchestral stage. Square Enix has also organized an anniversary orchestral concert tour titled ‘Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy Eternal / 悠久’, kicking off in March.
This spectacular tour will feature performances celebrating the enduring melodies of the series, led by iconic composers such as Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura, and Masayoshi Soken. The experience will be enhanced by HD videos created by Square Enix, offering a moving celebration of four decades of gaming history and the evolution of video game technology.
