Every Time I Die guitarist Andy Williams dies at 48
The wrestling world and the music scene mourn the loss of Andy Williams, a figure who managed to capture the attention of fans across multiple worlds. Williams, who wrestled professionally as The Butcher, passed away at the age of 48 after a sudden collapse following a wrestling event in Pennsylvania.
Tragically, the event occurred not in the ring, but backstage at an Enjoy Wrestling event in Millvale, Pennsylvania, where he was competing in a tag-team match with his partner, Jesse ‘The Blade’ Guilmette. He received CPR at the venue and was taken to a local hospital, where his life came to an end.
Williams’ legacy spans more than just professional wrestling. He was a foundational member of the influential band Every Time I Die, having joined the group in 1998. His guitar work was integral to the band, and he featured on all nine of their studio albums, including their final LP, ‘Radical‘ in 2021.
After the split of Every Time I Die in 2022, Williams continued his creative journey. He formed the supergroup Atomic Rule with fellow ETID members, and later contributed to the group Better Lovers.
Beyond his musical and wrestling achievements, Williams was celebrated for his incredible character. Tributes poured in from friends and peers who recognized him as a truly special human being. One tribute highlighted his remarkable nature, noting that he was a true 1 of 1 human being in every aspect of life.
The respect Williams commanded extended far beyond the wrestling circuit. Figures like All Elite Wrestling acknowledged his influence, recognizing him as a trailblazing musician who successfully transitioned into the world of professional wrestling and earned respect from his peers both inside and outside the ring.
Fellow wrestlers also spoke of his warmth and kindness. Josh Alexander recalled him as one of the best people he had ever met, emphasizing that Andy Williams possessed an enormous heart that could always put a smile on others’ faces.
The community of music fans also paid homage to his talent. The music festival KNOTFEST expressed their sorrow, remembering Williams for his guitar playing in the iconic Every Time I Die and his spanning wrestling career, describing him as a warm and beloved presence in every space he occupied.
Williams had recently been looking forward to new creative endeavors, even sharing excitement about the band finishing new music and tracking songs for demos just ahead of his fateful day.
