Ella Langley: A concert isn’t worth a life

The road to music is often paved with unexpected detours, and for country star Ella Langley, that detour recently involved a serious security scare. Her scheduled concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, had to be called off just hours before the event due to a reported threat.

However, when fear knocks, resilience often answers. Langley returned to the stage in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday night, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to her art despite the unsettling circumstances.

The decision to cancel the Tulsa show stemmed from a serious security threat. While local law enforcement swept the venue and surrounding area on Friday and determined that there was no credible threat to the event’s safety, the decision was made to prioritize well-being.

When asked about the decision, Langley offered a deeply personal perspective. “When it comes to keeping you safe, and making sure that this show is a safe place for us to come and enjoy our music, it will happen. But the second it feels like it’s not, I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it because a concert’s not worth a human life. It’s not,” she explained.

This reflection touched the audience, shifting the focus from the external threat to the internal values that guide her work. She emphasized that the most important things in life are the people who love you and the peace of mind you possess.

Langley turned to her faith, asserting that her relationship with Jesus Christ was paramount. “The most important thing in this life, number one, is your relationship with Jesus Christ,” she shared. She added that this spiritual conviction gave her the strength to proceed with her plans, illustrating a profound sense of peace amidst uncertainty.

Despite the scare, the music continued. Langley performed her hit “Choosin’ Texas” and then launched into “Loving Life Again,” using her powerful voice to connect with the audience and reaffirm hope.

The security concerns were serious enough that law enforcement action was taken. Captain Richard Meulenberg communicated that they had received a threatening call involving threats of shots fired and bombs, prompting an overabundance of caution.

Ultimately, the event proved that true strength lies not in fear, but in the commitment to what you believe in. As Langley thanked the audience for showing up, the message was clear: “We’re just so grateful to be playing this show tonight. We’re so grateful and we will never take this for granted.”
